Struggling to find them....is that a good thing or a bad thing :P You can discount the child Margaret who shows as born in 1855 Clyde.  There was a child born then to a couple with those names but they married in 1848 in Lanarkshire and child Margaret shows as their their only living daughter.

Can't easily see a John Weir b. 1848 in Hamilton in 1861 (nor a death for him up to 1861).

Hi Monica,

I saw that the Ayrshire Paternity records had been completed, so did a search on "Mcintyre", and got a few results but the most interesting was :-

Pursuer   Margaret McIntyre, Townhead, Stevenston
Defender   Robert Frew Junior, Miner or Coal Hewer, Kilwinning
Year of Child's Birth   1839
Year Extract Isssued   1846
Sheriff Court   Ayr
County   Ayrshire
NRS Reference   SC6/7/6 p. 844

I suspect the child to be Robert Mcintyre also known as Robert Frew. So after 9 1/2 years of searching, I have found the natural father of Robert McIntyre or Frew.

Hi tidy books
Something to be aware of. At that time, the town of Saltcoats was split between the parishes of Stevenston and Ardrossan. The original parish boundary markers are still in situ and being Saltcoats born and bred, I know for certain that "Green Street, Saltcoats" would have been in the parish of Ardrossan. "Canalsticks" would be "Canal Street", parish of Stevenston. Green and Canal Streets are approximately two hundred metres apart.

BTW, the surname "Divine" should be "Devine" - either mis-transcribed or neither the recorder nor the individual could spell it; not uncommon in those days. Interestingly, the recorder has spelled it religiously  ::)  ;) .

Hi q98,

Thanks for the information re Green Street and Canalsticks, I googled Green Street Saltcoats and came up with map, showing Green Street near Saltcoats Railway Station, is that what used to be in Ardrossan Parish boundary. A bit disappointed that Canal Street is Canalsticks, it sounded more romantic.

My Great Grandmother, used Agnes Divens McIntyre, and I have seen Devins, Divine and Devine. Her mum and dad were both illiterate, signing their MC with a X, so easy to understand why so many variations.

Hi Tom,
The four original Parish boundary marker stones were laid in August 1782. Currently, two are unlocated, one is retained by the local museum and the fourth remains in situ, seen here:
http://www.threetowners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=62174#p62174

In the top photo, the structure right centre with balcony & balustrade is the Town Hall in Countess Street. The bottom photo presents the reverse view depicting Saltcoats Railway Station (the red sandstone structure) on the right.

BTW, I erred in my earlier post; Green and Canal Streets are probably more like 600metres apart.
