Butti family 1796
« on: Sunday 13 April 08 17:59 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Butti family from Lake Como, Italy.
Louis came to Scotland, Alexander to Middlesex and Joseph to Somerset.
I have info on Alexander and Joseph but not alot on Louis.
Does anyone have any info on Louis?
Would love to know who the parents of these brothers were and why they came to Britain.
Regards, Nicola

Just wondering if this is Louis's death:

26 September 1868

Louis Joseph Butti, aged 74. Retired Carter and Gilder. 2 Springfield, Leith, Midlothian. Widower of Elizabeth Mitchell (?). Parents - unknown. Informant Hugh Hearne Home, son in law.

He will be on the 1861 census, if it's him  :)

It's a pity about the lack of info on his parents, Nicola  :(

That Home certainly was badly written*!

Can you give details of what you have on his marriage/children. It might help.

From the death certificate that I put details up earlier for and was confirmed by Nicola,  the 1829 one to Elizabeth Mitchell was correct.

Maybe he married twice and the first wife died. However, the death cert has no mentions of Waterston!

There can't be two can there  :o

Hi Nicola
I have some info on Louis Butti. I do not know who his parents were I'm afraid.
Louis Joseph Butti was first married to Elspeth Waterston, who was residing in Forfar at the time of their marraige proclomation. Elspeth must have died and he went on to marry the Elizabeth Mitchell (my 3rd G Grandaunt) She had been married to John Nolli and had a son John Bartholemew Nollie 1827-1891.
Louis and Elizabeth had 4 children
James Alexander Butti 1831-1897 married to Eleanor Whitehead
Elizabeth Butti 1834-1881 married to Hugh Home
George Butti 1838-1896 married to Eliza Home Eliza and George were siblings
Peter Louis Butti 1847-1932 He was a catholic priest and ended his days at Blairs Collage, Aberdeen.
There is also lots of little Butti children from these marrraiges.
If you want you can mail me at fandganderson AT aol.com (replace AT with @)
Hope this helps somewhat
Fiona
