Aberdare address I cannot make out
« on: Saturday 19 April 08 17:21 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Have just traced an extension of family but I cannot make out the 'where born' entry on Elizabeth M Andrews. The entry above is Glamorgan, Aberdare as is the one below it.

Will appreciate all help.

Thanks

Looked up Aberdare on a map and there's a place called CWMPENNAR.  There's also a CEFNPENNAR both near Aberaman and Aberfan.

hi Hampshire-grandma

Many thanks for your reply. Will settle for cwmpennar as it looks more likely. Looked up a map and see they are both near each other.
Must get the hang of deciphering writings.
Have just found a branch of family and am trying to fill in some gaps.

Really appreciate your help. It looks as if there may be a few close relatives in the are that I knew nothing about.

Regards

Looks like CLIFTON CRESCENT to me.

I thought Cefn Pennar would have come under Llanwonno Parish is it is Mountain Ash area.

There is a CLIFTON STREET and CLIFTON COURT just off MONK STREET in ABERDARE but there is no CLIFTON TERRACE .
I wont think that would have been classsed as ABERAMAN.
Aberaman is a village between Aberdare and Abercwmboi.

Take a look on Mapquest.co.uk

Just a little idea.
It may be worth you finding the pages prior or later to the one you have with the family on. This will give you a better clue to the streets around it.
They would have walked from street to street intertwining the village addresses together.
Or try the Cynon Valley library at Aberdare or even an old Postal Book archive to see if the Crescent may have been renamed a Street or Court in later years due to expansion, as this was sometimes done.

My brother got married at St Margarets church Aberaman.

It is in the area of Cardiff Road on the junction between Cwmaman road and Clarence Terrace Aberaman.

It would be CWMAMAN if anything , within the Parish of St Margarets schurch , Aberaman.

Another little thought is that it could be a few houses within a larger street.

Hope this helps you out.

Hi al

Really appreciated all your help on this.

Reading closely Cwmpennar seems the favourite going by the flow of writing now knowing what to look for.

Many thanks to all.
