O'Byrne's Royal Navy Biography 1849
« Reply #11 on: Wednesday 07 June 06 17:24 BST (UK) »
O'Byrne's Royal Navy Biography was first published in 1849 and contains the names, birthdate (if known),rank and date of entry into the service of most (but not all) Officers in the Royal Navy up to 1848. If married the spouse's name is listed and also when the marriage took place.

Information regarding a man's Navy service is also entered in most cases but the following pages only include the details mentioned above.I have access to the original book so if you do find someone that you're interested in, post a new topic on the Armed Forces board with the heading " O'Byrne's Look Up" together with the surname and I'll have a look for you. ;)

It looks very much as if the site as been taken down, and no longer available, however the http://www.archive.org/about/about.php as seen fit to archive the pages, they can be found at this link.
