Can anyone help me in Maryland?
« on: Friday 25 April 08 09:43 BST (UK) »
I have just discovered that an old neighbour of a friend of mine died last October in Maryland-her name was Phyllis L McGuire nee Neil. Her husband Matthew McGuire ex US Navy died in 2005 and is buried at Arlington Cemetery.

Can anyone suggest where she might be buried or how I can find out where her kids are now? She isn't buried with hubby and the local Gazette doesn't have an obit for her.In 2005 they seem to have been living in Montgomery Village and Phyll died with a Gaithersburg area code in the SSN death index.

She had two daughters and a son who was b 1950 and who will hopefully still be alive,so I won't mention any names here

I would be very grateful for some help here-if someone could just point me in the right direction  ;D

Thanks

Carol x

Do you have an obituary for her husband?  It might give a location for their children and, if appropriate, married surnames for the daughters.

Otherwise, you could try looking online for cemeteries or funeral homes in the area and see if they have any information about Phyllis.

HI Shelley

No obits for either sadly.

I've emailed 4 cemeteries that I could find online, but none of them have her!

Dollylee kindly sent me the White Pages entries for the area, but none are in the son's name.

I'm getting nowhere fast with this problem ::)

Thanks anyway

Carol

I know this is rather an old thread, but I am revisting it to try and get some more info.

A few questions........can I get either Matthew (2005) or Phyllis's(2007) death cert .

Is there a good website that may have either of their obit's?
I've tried googling Maryland newspapers but had no luck so far.

Their 3 kids (2 girls and a boy) were all born in the 40's and 50's,is there a Maryland marriage index that I can search?

Many thanks

Carol

Hi Carol,

Have you tried the RAOGK volunteer for Montgomery - 1 st on the list of the link below does " Public Records library lookups and copying. Obituaries "

http://www.raogk.org/maryland.htm

There is a family that travels Guam to San Fran on the Fred Ainsworth - 17 August 1951 going to 8 Mawal Drive. Cedar Grove. NJ -
Is that your family ?

Hi Sandra,

Yes that is the family I'm interested in,and no I haven't tried the RAOGK.
I've had great success with them with my own family in Canada, not sure why I never thought to look them up this time  ::)

Many thanks

Carol

Added- I've just had a good look through and find that none of them do anything as recent as 2005 or 2007.Although someone does offer still photo's in Gaithersburg which is where I suspect Phyllis is buried.

Hi Carol,

1st on the list for Montgomery doesn't specify and dates - just says "Public Records library lookups and copying. Obituaries. Pension records at National Archives in DC. City directories at Library of Congress"

From what I can tell, such recent Maryland death certificates are only available to surviving relatives and a few other particular categories:  http://vsa.maryland.gov/html/death.cfm
