Name in a will i can't decipher!!!
« on: Monday 17 January 05 13:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have a will from 1848 that i'm trying to make sense of and on one line it says:

entitled upon the death of my mother to a legacy or sum of five hundred pounds under the will of my late aunt Elizabeth Thomas _____ .

I can't make this bit of the name out and without it i can't find the relevant will to see how Elizabeth Thomas (--?--) is related.

Anybody fancy a go?

Problem is i can't work out how to cut the line from its original .pdf file to paste here, so would have to send the whole file.

Bean

How does the narrative carry on? Are you sure her name isnt just Elizabeth Thomas and the unknown word is just 'Now....' or something else irrelevant?

Just a thought.

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Immediately after the name it says:

I hereby give and bequeath

So i'm fairly sure that its part of a name BUT i will certainly now try finding a will of an Elizabeth Thomas who died at the right time!!

hi bean,

if you are sure that it is part of her name, then what about Trow? even though the first letter does look like a capital N.

sorry the best I could come up with.

That's what i thought it was but the only Elizabeth Rows that come up on the documents online site for wills are spinsters and i have no link at all to any Rows in my tree. However they are in the right period 1824 to 1848. The Elizabeth in question is referred to in the will as, my late aunt, so i was assuming that she was married to a family member or the sister of someone who was married to a family member.

Have now tried Frow, Trow and Row with no joy barring the 2 Rows mentioned earlier.
Are all pre 1858 wills on this site - documents online, part of the national archives website?
