WILSON
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 01:38 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,
Just starting a quest looking for the birth of Helen WILSON about 1871.
Father believed to be William WILSON a shepherd. It is though he was a Scottish planter.
The only other clue at the moment is his sheep roamed on Muckish ( sp.?) mountain ??

Hello viddavid,

Muckish is the third highest mountain in the Derryveagh Mountains. http://mountainviews.ie/mv/index.php?mtnindex=163

Here's a link to a map of the area www.muckishsalmon.com/Location.htm

Hello,
my mother's Grandfather was born at Larricus, near Creeslough at the foot of the Muckish Mountains.  His father was William Hutchison Wilson, a Scottish shepherd who moved to Ireland in approx 1867.  One of William's daughters was "Ellen" Wilson, born 1870.
William died in 1916 at Larricus.  William was married to Sarah Adamson and they had about 12 children.
If this sounds a possible connection, please send a message - I do have one photograph.
I realize this is in response to an old post, but I just came across it today.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Carolyn. (daughter of Maureen Crofts nee Wilson)

In Scotland Helen is the more common version of the name- did she perhaps move there?

Hello Carolyn,
My years of research have led me to believe the lady in the picture is one Sarah ADAMSON.
Helen or Ellen was born 21 July 1870 Church Hill, nr. Letterkenny,Donegal. Father William Wilson. Mother Sarah Adamson. FHL Film Number 01211.
Bit busy today but will dig out my records next week.
Regards
David

Yes Aghadowey the second link is correct. I have a copy somewhere.
This maybe the same family at school. Time to get the map out again.

I wonder if the Wilsons where moved in after the Derryveagh Evictions of 1861 ?

The family listed in the school record is indeed the right family.
Also listed are Abraham (my great great grandfather), Archibald, James, Robert, Annie, and Agnes :)

What is your association with/why were you searching for info re Helen Wilson?
Where did the photo come from?

Any additional info would be great - I haven't had much luck finding details of the family in Ireland - I know some moved back to Scotland, and some to England.

My parents found the gravestone of William Hutchison Wilson at St. Johns, Ballymore on a visit in approx 2002.

I will post photographs soon.
Thanks!
