Hi, I am researching Aitken's in New Zealand and came across your Post. Thomas Alexander Aitken was the son of Alexander and Agnes Kinkaid (I think) m 21/7/1818 at Port Glasgow Renfrew Scotland. He was born 1830 and brother of Alexander b. 1822 d. NZ 1858, William b. 1826 d. NZ1901. Alexander was married to Eliza Stirling in 1850 Gorvan (she was born in Ayrshire in 1832) and they had Alexander b. 1851 d. NZ1913, James b. 1852 d. NZ 1878 and Jane or Jeanie b. 1854 who married John Richmond in 1878. William, Alexander, Eliza and three children travelled to NZ in 1855 on the Moa (via Sydney). They appear in the 1851 census at Tradeston Renfrewshire Scotland. William became a real estate agent and built Rockwood House in Auckland in 1865, with Eliza and children living there too until she remarried in 1883 to Carrick. My interest for the local heritage society is in Alexander the son who purchased +7,000 acres in the Morrinsville area (which the family have either lost for rehab soldiers or sold) so have none left. The above is what I have found, hope it helps.
