Hello

I have just made a small discovery regarding Sarah Elizabeth Miller. I have found a marriage record for John Miller and Elizabeth Sutherland, married in Kirkwall, Orkney in 26/04/1838. I have also discovered that John Miller aged 25 years was living on the same farm as his parents and daughter on the 1841 census, except he was in unmarried accommodation with several other unrelated males. I can find no birth record for Sarah Elizabeth or death record for her mother, Elizabeth.

I previously though that he must have been away at sea but it makes more sense that Elizabeth died and John remarried Euphemia Mowat 19/11/1841, when Sarah Elizabeth was 2 years old.

That is a new and very interesting piece to fit into the jigsaw, thank you. That means that Euphemia Mowatt is not my ancestor (no French connection then!). I have a copy of Euphemia's death certificate - if you don't have it I can send you a copy but for now details are: date of death 22/10/1865 at Macclesfield Springs of heart disease. She was 57, and her husband's occupation was farmer. I also have a copy of John Miller's death certificate. You may already have this, but on the 1851 census Sarah Miller is12, Euphemia is her mother, their address is Rumbles in the civil parish of St Andrews Orkney, and her place of birth is given as St Ola, Orkney. Other household members are Barbra 5, Jane 7, John 36, Robina 1. I have family information on Sarah's husband John Snell, a bit on the life of their daughter Sarah Elizabeth (born 1858), and some on their son Albert Henry (born 1867). Let me know if you are interested in those strands of the family. I'm still looking for that photo of Charley (Charley's war service record is available online, if that is of interest).
Cheers

all migrated to South Australia between 1836 and 1890s

Hello

I'm certainly interested in all the information you have mentioned since I don't have any of it. The oldest photographs that I have are of two of Barbara Miller and William Eunson's children. William Eunson Jnr who went to live in Edinburgh and my GG Grandmother, Sarah(Eunson) Donaldson. She is seen in the photograph with her family. Back row l to r. William, Isabella, John, Barbara and James Jnr. Front row l to r. Margaret, James Donaldson Snr, Sarah Jnr, Sarah Snr.

Did you know that Barbara Miller and William Eunson had another 3 children. James died aged 37 and he was unmarried. John and David both emigrated to Australia in the second half of the 19th century. I have no information on John but David had 4 daughters (2 at least married in Australia) and his obituary is online.

Cornwall records have a marriage in 1841 for Jane SNELL of Bodmin, daughter of John SNELL to George TIPPETT.
This couple also lived at Mount Barker Springs when one child named William Henry TIPPET was born 19.5.1860.  MtB/19/125
Jane TIPPETT died 30 Jan 1898,  age recorded as 82y.  Ade/249/181
George TIPPETT died 30 Dec 1897,  age recorded as 77y.  Ade 248/320

This TIPPETT family arrived as assisted passengers in 1859.

59/3 is the ship James Jardine.

Seven baptisms were recorded in Cornwall but only five children emigrated with their parents.

It appears passenger lists have the mother and six children.

Also this report in TROVE.

Thank you Essie. I looked on the OPC site and found the marriage and baptism of the children of Jane Tippett. Did George come out earlier than the family?

I have found Mary Ann Snell marrying Josiah Thomas in 1850
Elizabeth marrying William Harper in 1847. Susan marrying Samuel Baker in 1848. Trying to confirm that I have the correct people  :)

Hi

Early marriage records do not name the father. However, looking at where the marriages occurred and where the siblings later lived usually is a clue to family connections.
