Where is Melton in Derbyshire please?
« on: Wednesday 07 May 08 21:00 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have someone who on two census records says she was born Melton, Derbyshire.  I cannot find a Melton in Derbyshire only Nottinghamshire.

There is someone of the same name birth registered Hayfield, Derbyshire.  Am I looking at the right person do you think??  Was there once a village called Melton near Hayfield?

Thanks
Joan

I think "ain't gotta clue" is probably the right district  ;D

Going off in search of 1861 Hayfield census

Nearly 10 years late!!

Yes, Mellor is near Hayfield but I've just come across a Marriage Bond for someone residing in "Melton" which has brought me to this thread. In fact, I have two different copies of the same bond one has been transcribed as "Mellor" and the other as "Melton". I suspect ti's a transcription error
