Hi Tim,

it could be something to do with an old page in the cache or an old cookie.

I'll have to ask Trystan.

Tim,

How long ago did you log into the Surname Interests Table? We did a bit of a changeover some weeks ago, and you may need to delete your  Rootschat cookie (but before you do make sure you know your username and login password!)

Hi Trystan,

It's probably a couple of months since I visited the SIT.  In the meantime I changed my email address, but not my user name or password - could that have affected anything?

I've deleted all cookies and temporary files from the Tools --> Internet Options drop-down menu, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference - I still cannot log in.  Is there something else I need to do to delete my Rootschat cookie?

Cheers

Hi
I changed my chatter- name and then went to add some Surnames and I get:
"Either the chatter-name or chatter_id is wrong !!"

But looking at my log in name above it's what I've changed it to.

So if I needed to change both chatter-name and chatter_id why was there only one name change option available to me???

Hi suziehaze,

Welcome to RootsChat !

I gather you're  referring to the Surname Interests Table ??
Your chatter_id is your RootsChat ID number.
(hover with the mouse over your name, anywhere, and you should see at the bottom of your browser your user number 22760)

When you started using the SIT you logged in with your old user name,
so now, when you log in as 'susiehaze' your user ID is still the same, so the SIT says "Sorry, there is already an ID 22760 here and it is not suziehaze !!", hence the message  :(

If you are now going to stay "suziehaze" for a while, I'll change your name in the SIT database !

OK with you ??

Hi

When I look at the entries most have ../../ before the place names. Is this significant or should we backspace to remove this? Have I not entered the data correctly?

Hi Jane,

what you are seeing is the difference between the "old" Version 2 SIT with just Surname and Comment fields, and the "new" Version 3 SIT, with additional County and Place name fields

Unfortunately, not everybody has edited their older entries yet (Hint, Hint !!)

To Everybody !!!)

Edit your existing entries to include County and place name and what will then appear is

   CCC/Place name/Comment,
where CCC stands for the 3 letter Chapman County Code

Try editing one name, to see how it goes, then edit the rest !

this might help, too (although the diagrams are from the older version):

Hi Bob

I was entering them incorrectly. Another query: How do I enter the same name with more than 1 county? I have tried to enter them individually but only the first entry shows up.

Hi Jane,

Use a new entry for each county.

The whole idea behind the "new" input is that people can search by County.
The alternative would have been seperate tables for each "Surname Interests in County XYZ" and I didn't wan to go that route  ;D
