The RAF Museum holds several hundred personnel files relating to members of the ATA who served during the Second World War. The files, covering men and women who served in ground trades as well as aircrew, are only available to next of kin. www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/collections/archive/ata_records.cfm

Diana Barnato Walker, who died on April 28 aged 90, was one of the ATA pilots. She was a grand daughter of a trader and juggler from the Mile End Road named Barney Barnato. He must have been some juggler and trader as he became co-founder of the De Beers mining group. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1927116/Diana-Barnato-Walker.html
