Hi

Could William maybe have died before 1861 and Christina remarried?

There is this family at Dalhalvag, Upper Strathahhalladle, Reay

William Douglas, 64, Lotter (?), b. Halkirk
Christina Douglas, 61, wife, b. Reay
Margaret McKay, 21, Stepdaughter, Serv.  Oops, forgot to note where Margaret was born - will go back and look.

Cheers

Ellen.

Only two baptisms that fit for Margaret with mother Christina/alts are:

21 January 1839, Latheron to Neil McKay and Christian Young

24 Jan 1841, Reay to Peter McKay and Christy MacKay

She might not have been recorded though.

No sign of a death for William 1855-1861  :-\

There were the Clearances still going on then - did they emigrate or move outwith the county  :-\

Hi both

Scratch the Christina Douglas with the daughter Margaret as a possible.  I checked out her death in 1866 - she was a McKay by birth, so the daughter must have been illegitimate pre her marraige to William Douglas.

Sorry for the wild goose chase!  Back to the drawing board.
