Hello Jim
The IGI (International Genealogical Index) at
www.familysearch.org has the following three children listed as having been born to Alexander Sherriffs and Isabella McKinnon:
1. ISABELLA SHERRIFFS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 28 AUG 1855 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
2. ALEXANDER SHERRIFFS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 28 AUG 1855 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
3. EUPHEMIA SHERIFFS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 05 SEP 1852 South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland
You will notice that the top two are twins. They were born and registered in 1855. This was the first year of official registration in Scotland and as such gave a good deal of information. If you got one of these birth certificates from 1855 it would tell you what age the father was and where he was born. The same for the mother. It would also tell you how many children then had and whether male or female and whether living or dead. It will also give you their marriage date and place. This was the only year this information was given. You could get this record at
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk This is a pay to view site where £6 will buy you 30 credits.
Good luck.
Patricia
