Thanks for that, Christopher - but I'm afraid I'm totally confused now ??? You certainlly keep us supplied with new sites! :)
Just been talking to Peter on the Granny Riley thread saying I didn't think the name Riley had Irish associations, looking at the surname map, but then you link came up! ;D ??? ;D
Suppose there is quite a distribution over on the Liverpool side - and it looks as if the name died out fairly early in Ireland (hope I got that right).
They don't make things easy, do they!
Kind regards,
Paulene :)

Beady, do you not know the difference between Christian names and surnames ???

Hi Paulene,

The Irish washerwoman, Old Mother Riley, was one of the well known characters created by entertainer Arthur Lucan (born Arthur Towle in Sibsey, Lincolnshire in 1885). Fifteen films were made in the Old Mother Riley series between 1937 and 1952.

The surname Riley and other varients of O'Reilly are listed on the website Christopher posted and the name certainly hasn't died out in Ireland.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

aghadowey,
Thanks for letting me know - we will have to wait and see wher the trail ends, then! :)

Christopher,
Funny old films, weren't they - I remember watching the repeats with my dad when I was little :) Wonder what the kids would make of them now!
