two of my children have no fathers details on their birth certs purely because we are not married andhe did not come register the births and didnt sign a declaration  however i did give them the fathers surname

In Scotland it was quite common for an illegitimate child to be given the father's surname as a middle name, thereby unofficially acknowledging him.

Hi there i have just found out my grandmother had a child out of marriage 1920ish but gave up for adoption aged 3 but cannot find any birth records any clues where to start. Child wad called Ruth grandmothers maiden name was Bibby. My grandmother was in a orphanage in Norwood till she went into service presumably aged 14-16. Help !
