Hi Ruskie,
I might be able to help you get stuff translated if you're struggling - son in law is bi-lingual.
Keep in touch.
Paulene :)

I ran a search on the surname LANCER in the various databases at JewishGen, and can confirm that the name was virtually unknown outside the Lublin district. There was a concentration in Zamosc and the area to the SE, particularly in Tomaszow Lubelski and Komarow.

Tantalisingly, there is marriage record for:

Wolf Lancer and Baila Fayer in Jarczow (SE of Zamosc) in 1893.

These records have been transcribed from Russian into English. Phoneticaly, Fayer would be pretty much like Fier. The German spelling would be FEIER which means celebration.

It would be well worth your while registering (for free) with JewishGen. There are two other people researching the LANCER from this region!!!

Thanks very much Justin for all your hard work and must say those two names look interesting, I am going to take a chance and send for the certs.
I did get the birth cert for a Abraham lancer born to a Woolf and Sarah in 1912 Mile End and the parents marriage cert , but I am not too sure its the right people .
I do belong to Jewishgen but have a hard time understanding where to post  .
I am going to have a look at that tomorrow thanks again

just an update in case anybody is interested.
Thanks everybody for helping .
Was thrilled to find my Grandfather on he 1911 census records with his parents and siblings, got in touch with one of his relatives and Bingo not only got a Photo of him , and nobody in my family had ever seen him not even my Mum , also got a tape in which his Sister Rose talks about their childhood and mentions him, I was so moved to hear this and so thrilled to be in touch with somebody in his family.
Such a shame he died so young and my mum never knew him ,the photo may be a bit small ?
