Hi Annie,
Thanks for those sites - fascinating, aren't they.
I'd love to look into my son-in-laws tree (he's from Moscow, but roots elsewhere), but need to see how the family feel about it first.
Something new to learn everyday, on RootsChat ;D
I think the marriage is a fair bet, Annie - but where is the first wife's death?!!!  ??? ???
Paulene :)

hello everybody and thanks for your input, the tree you found on genealogy is mine LOL
I only know on the burial records which were paid for by a stranger ?? so it says he is down as Russian ???
I have been told that poland belonged to Russia up till about 1900 is that right ??
I am getting quite excited about this family I am starting to believe they are mine.
I do hope so as maybe I can go forward and find somebody still around with info on him.
I too wonder if that is Woolfs other marriage, I shall see if I can find the first ones death hope so thanks everybody for the links too shall be looking at them today.

Hi,

The "stranger" on the burial records;  have you researched their name to see if there is a link?

Hi its not a name it just says a stranger and it looks like it took a few years to pay for the burial too.
I suppose my grandmother could not afford it and I did wonder if maybe his boss paid for it as he did die at work .
I have found a death for a Sarah Langer in 1911 Whitechapel do you think this could be Woolfs first wife???
Think I am going to order a few more certs today

Hi chaps,

I've read a bit about Russian research in the past. Thanks for those links, by the way as I'd missed those.

I've gathered that the only way to do research in Russia is to pay for someone to do it for you. Apart from the fact that I wouldn't trust some possibly dodgy researcher, I'd rather have the fun of doing my own. The small matter of the language .... well that may hinder.

Does anyone know if the LDS are in there doing their bit? Would they take someone to translate into English?

PS. Paulene - you can do mine if you want to (I give my permission  ;))

Thinking sideways here but could the burial have been paid by A. Stranger rather than a stranger?   A quick look at the 1901 census showed 300 listings with the surname Stranger.

really ??? I never thought to check that will do now thanks .nanny jan
I have just found a Sarah Langer born in Russia  in the London Hospital in 1901 as a patient so reckon thats the Sarah Langer death I found, and would rule her out .
as Abraham did not come here till 1907 unless she was Woolfs second wife ???

Hi Ruskie,
Now there's a challenge I hadn't expected :-\ :-[  Have you started it, Ruskie?
It's a very difficult language so my daughter tells me (she did a year). At least we have the benefit of a translator, I suppose.
Just found this site, which you might not have seen:
http://blog.worldvitalrecords.com/?p=111
The sites included in it look quite good - thought you might be interested.
Paulene :)
Visited last year - amazing place! :D

Thanks for the link Paulene. I've never been to the 'old country' but wouldn't mind going.

I was kindof joking about you having a go with mine, but you can if you want to. I've got some stuff already yes.

(My father can speak the language but I think he might be a bit rusty with translations).
