SCEATS from Bath
« on: Friday 21 January 05 09:16 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with anything more on this Family?

Henry SCEATS married Phoebe Ann PERKINS on 10 April 1842 in Bath
Henry was a widower at the time of the marriage, Occ. Toll Collector
Father's names from the marriage cert are Thomas Sceats & George Perkins

Henry had died before 18 July 1870, the date of his son's marriage.

The marriage was witnessed by Edwin Sceats & Mary Matilda Sceats

The only known child that I have is Edwin John Sceats born 28 Sep 1847 at The Plough Inn, Widcombe.(Where Henry was a Publican)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Darren

A quick search on SCEATS (and variations) produces the following born in Bath and present on the 1871 census:

SCEATS Frederick 27, born Bath lodger @ Newport Pagnell
SEATS Bessie 76, born Bath, widow @ Walcot, Bath
SKATES Samuel 70, born Walcot, marr, @ ditto
SKEATES Joseph 43, born Walcot, Head @ Lyncombe and Widcombe (plus family)
SKEATES William 26, born Bath, Head @ Walcot

You would probably need to order certificates, or ask for a search of earlier censuses to confirm relationships.   Sorry can't do that for you.   Suggest posting in Somerset, rather than Glos!!  ;)

Best wishes, Arranroots

Hi Arranroots

Thanks very much for your help.

Are saying that I shouldn't have dropped out of Geograhpy when I was in school?

Cheers once again.

Thanks for your help.
I have reposted this on the Somerset area but I don't know how to delete it from here.

He he  ;D

It doesn't help that they keep changing the counties around every five minutes!!  I was born in Gloucestershire, but my daughter's birth cert says Avon and by the time my son was born I had moved back to Gloucestershire again - all without any effort on my part!

hey I have been doing some digging in my family tree, and from what I have found out, Henry is the son of Thomas Sceats and Sarah Sceats (Garraway), I was unaware Henry had any children, but Mary Matilda is his niece, Henry also had 4 brothers and a sister.

I'm slowly piecing things together, but still lots of holes
