Old Margate streets
« on: Friday 20 June 08 18:46 BST (UK) »
On some BMD certificates that I received recently the address for the family is Venter Lane Margate - this is the spelling given on both certificates, so I guess that it is correct. Does anybody happen know where Venter Street was because I would love to visit the area when I am next 'home'?

Hi Chrisann

I'm not sure if it helps but I think it may have been otherwise known as "Ventnor" Lane which appears on the 1881 census as following 20 Victoria Road ................... then 8 dwellings in Ventnor Lane, 2 dwellings back of Ventnor Lane, Princes Crescent, Charlotte Place etc.?

That is really interesting if it is the correct place because all of those streets still exist and aren't a million miles from where one of my cousins is living now. Many thanks.

Ventor Lane leads from Victoria Road through the Prices Crescent. It was known as Winter Lane until 1855. I have some lovely pictures of the Lane which is now built upon with new housing.

If you private message me your email address I will send an old and current map, plus a couple of pictures.

Regards
