Merchant Navy - Form T124 Crew Agreement
« on: Sunday 22 June 08 01:42 BST (UK) »
Help !!!

What the heck is a Form T124 Crew Agreement.????

My Father served in the British and Australian Merchant Navies during World Wars 1 and 2 and I have just started proceedings to obtain his War Medals from the relevant authorities.

I have been told, that to substantiate the claim, I must produce his T124, Crew Agreement for both periods.     Neither Google nor Yahoo have any reference to the Form, neither can I obtain any information from the various Shipping Lists.

I wonder if any 'Rootschatter' has had any knowledge of this Form, and if so, could they 'Scan' me a copy so that I can see what information is contained therein and what the Form looks like.??

Thank you in anticipation.    Jim

At the beginning of the war the Royal Navy realised that it would not be able to man all the auxiliary vessels it required and so a number of officers and men of the Merchant Navy agreed to serve with the Royal Navy under the T.124 agreement, which made them subject to Naval discipline while generally retaining their Merchant Navy rates of pay and other conditions.

I think information on T.124 Agreements is held at the National Archives.  The following forum has experts on this sort of thing and it would be worthwhile posting your query on there:

Thanks a lot for your advice, Imber.    I'll certainly ahve a go at it anyway.
