Hi Kerry,
thanx for your research, I also noticed the Day family, and wondered if it was a maiden name....
I have now found the Jones' in 1841, but haven't tracked them down in 1851 yet.
The field you mentioned earlier is catsfield.
Once again, thanx for your help :)

Of course, yes Catsfield.  It looked like Tatsfield but there isn't one of those in Sussex  ::)

Glad to help.

Re: Henry Jones c 1852 and Mary Ann

Hi
Just coming back to this bit of research and was going to order Mary Ann's birth
certificate, as suggested by Roy G earlier in the post....
Would anyone be able to find Mary Ann before she married, so I can be sure of
a father's name to have checked, so I get the right certificate, please.
Any sightings of Mary Ann greatly appreciated.
The spelling of Shephard, obviously varies as well.

many thanx :)

My husbands great grandfather was Henry Jones wife Mary Ann Sheppard. His Grandfather Charles Jones and his mother Elsie Mabel Jones, My husband is 80 years old and remembers his grandfather well, a rather larger than life character who played the squeeze box in return for a pint at the local. In sober times he joined the Salvation Army but often fell from grace and had to resign the pledge. He was married twice , his first wife died. He had one daughter and 2 sons and a step daughter by this marriage we do not think he had any children of his own by the second marriage but had step children. We would love to know more about the Jones side of the family and any relatives out there. Thank you Marjorie

Sorry just re read my message and it may read ambiguously .
I Have
Samuel Jones b 1831  m  Sarah Day b1829
Henry Jones b 1852  m Mary Ann Sheppard b1853
Charles Jones b1893 m Minnie Lena Dora Hamper b1895
Elsie Mabel Jones b1916 m George Henry Barnes b 1909
Alan George Barnes  [My husband] b 1938

So I think we have the same family.

Hi Majorie, it looks as if they could be one and the same.
Mary Ann Sheppard is my husbands great grandma, i finally tracked down the
details of her mother, after a lot of searching as they went under several names.
Can look out the details if you are interested.
Think you are able to pm me after a few posts, might be 3

best regards, Sandra

Yes any info would be most welcome. Told my husband that he shares a great granny with your husband. My husband was born in Hawkhurst Kent and I see Hawkhurst crops up in the birth places in the census so the family have not moved around a lot.  Any help much appreciated.

Regards
Marjorie.

Hi Majorie, I have sent you a pm, hopefully did this correctly, as a long time since I have sent one, might end up in your junk mail...
Mary Ann's mother was Sarah Ann Shepherd born c 1830, her parents were James and Diana nee Smedley.  Diana was born at sea, married James in Ninfield.

Sarah Ann Shepherd also known surnames Bacon and Porter she died 1909

Have some info I can email you in regard to Diana, who was quite a character  ;)
