Tinav40's Scavenger Hunt - Everyone Welcome to Join In.
« on: Tuesday 01 July 08 14:15 BST (UK) »

Hello and welcome to Tinav40's Scavenger Hunt.   This one is going to be a bit of a challenge I think so you'd best get your thinking caps on.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Barbara

                            *******************************

Here goes with my hunt........

This is not a brick wall but a longing to find out about my mums family.
Mum was born in 1927 and was put straight into care so she knew nothing about her family. She did have contact with her parents when she was older but very little. Everything I have found out has been since mum died.

My gran was born 12th October 1898 in Edgbaston Edith May Norbury. As far as I can tell she never married my grandfather. I have discovered he was already married from his service records. He was Bertie Abrahams born Aston 5th July 1893. Mum did not go by either of her parents names. She was registered as Dorothy  May Hayward. We assume grandad changed his name because he was Jewish. Although I think it was because he was married and was hiding his identity.

Edith's parents were William Harry Norbury 1868 Birmingham and Minnie Eliza Wareham 1871 Birmingham. It is the Norbury side that I would like to find out about.

William Harry was the illegitimate son of Sarah Ann Norbury /Norberry- 1840 Brierly Hill.  He also had a sister Sarah Louisa E Norbury born in 1865 also Birmingham. No father on certificate.
Sarah Ann Norbury married Edward Simms on 2nd Jan 1870  Birmingham St Thomas.
They had a further 2 children.
Hannah Amelia Simms 1871 and George Edward 1873 both Birmingham.
Edward Simms was married to a Caroline Ambler Braidy 1838 Birmingham  prior to my great great grandmother.

I cannot find any trace of Sarah and Edward after 1881. Where did they go? Maybe I have just overlooked them.
I would also like to find out who was Caroline Ambler Braidy (she is not a relation I know but I am curious). The only record of her I can find is her marriage to Edward on 31 August 1859 (IGI). She may have died very young as I cannot find her on the 1861 census.
I would like to find as much Norbury information as I can.

Thanks Daisy.
Could be.   :)
Just need to find Edward on 1891 census on his own to find if he was a widower.
I've seen it spelt Simms and Sims.
Also on William Harrys' marriage certificate his father is listed as Edward Norbury. ???

In 1881 Census if you have it already William H Norberry  b 1868 age 13 is listed as a Step son but if when he married
Edward Simms is listed as Father it would make sense as he brought him up he would put him down
