They Married on 6th Feb 1869 in Haslingden Rawtenstall.Lancashire
In 1871 Catherine was at White Horse, 39 Southgate Halifax, Yorkshire
In 1872 Robert was a soldier with 73rd Regiment of Foot Soldiers.
I know who Catherine's 2nd husband was, as he is my Gt Grandfather, but she did have a daughter with Robert, Henrietta, born 1872 in Yorkshire.
I have drawn a blank in researching both  Catherine Riley's and Robert Kershaw's ancestors.

Thanks for your earlier reply

Do you have the marriage certificate which would give faters names ?

Where did you get the middle name Agnes from? - she didnt use that in the marriage reg?

Is Catherine on her own in 1871?

When did she remarry?

If you know Robert was in the armed services could he have died in another country?

Why do you state Catherine was possibly b. Liverpool?

sorry for so many questions, but it all helps in the attempt to find them

1Parents were John Kershaw (labourer, woollen mills) and Bernard Riley (dec'd) (Plasterer journeyman)
At time of marriage 6th Feb 1869 addresses as follows:-
Robert Kershaw, Leve Clough Higher Booths Lancs (labourer, print works)
Catherine Riley, Swinshaw Farm Higher Booths  (domestic servant).
2.1871 census..I have found a Catherine and Robert Kershaw in Castleton Rochdale, dates not quite right, but address in Halifax was given to me by another v.reliable researcher.
3 Yes, possibly he was killed abroad, as he was a soldier at the time of their daughter's birth in 1872
4Catherine's middle name, Agnes is shown on her 2nd marriage cert, to John Sunderland (my Gt Grandfather) in March 1878. 1891 shows Catherine from Liverpool, 1881 shows her from Halifax, maybe she came through Liverpool from Ireland. Thank you again for racking your brains for me!!
