1881 Catherine is Catherine A Sunderland ?

Seems the only time the Agnes middle name is used is on 2nd marriage and afterwards?

Wish technoblond would come back on line - wonder if witnesses from the marriage certs would give further clues??

Marriage to Robert Kershaw....Thomas Gill and Catherine McCulloch/McCullock
Marriage to John Sunderland...John Sheddin and Eliza Sheddin/Sleddin
on both certs, Catherine has signed only using her mark (i.e. X)

I agree with you Suz....so many Robert Kershaws all b 1847 give or take a year or two..it would be very easy to go down the wrong road here..caution is needed.

I wonder if Tecnoblond has a birth cert for Henrietta ?

Ive found a John and Elizabeth Sheddon in both 1881 and 91 both b Scotland and living in Bradford -Yorkshire..which is only a stones throw from Halifax..but I cant see a connection..yet

How do we know Robert died, could there have been a divorce? I know pretty rare in those days but just seems too much of a coincidence considering he's a soldier aswell?
As you say so many from Rochdale, could there have been some confusion!

No I haven't got the birth cert for Henrietta. I know that she was born on 10th Jan 1872 at Sculcote Brow, Northowram Yorks. By 1881 she is at Hollingworth Lake , Butterworth,Rochdale, and is known as Henrietta Sunderland.

Have you tried under different spellings of the surname.

I have Kersey's but this is the other way which they are spelt - including KERSHAW

CASEY, KEISLY, KERSLEY, KERSEY, KERSHAW

There are probably other ways too.
