Hi Osprey,
I can only go by 1861 Census as to birthplace which says on checking Carmarthenshire. His age being 29. Unfortunately Thomas died 1867 age 35. Agricultural labourer at Porthkerry,Glamorgan.
His Marr.Cert March 1858 states 24yrs old. Father William David Occ. Blacksmith. It doesn't say Father deceased. Married at Llancarvan, Glamorgan.
Cannot find a Blacksmith named William David on any Census. Perhaps Llanelly wasn't his birthplace as cannot now find info. which made me think he was. Would like to find out if possible where born but seems an impossible task. So many brick walls to knock down.
Grateful for any help if at all possible. Regards, Syljun

Well, I'm having no luck on this one.

Are the name of the witnesses to the marriage any help?

Do you have him on the 1851 census?

I wouldn't trust the certificate not saying deceased to confirm William was still alive. There's no knowing what questions were asked. I have a marriage where one father is shown as deceased and one isn't. The one not shown definitely was and he'd been buried by the same vicar only a couple of years before and this in a small rural parish....

Thanks Osprey, I think this one is going to be a hard nut to crack. I was given info as to 1851 Census of a Thomas David b. 1832 Llanelly  occ. Collier being a Visitor to a James family in Micaelstone Superavon Glamorgan but was unable to find where this was and not seeing full transcript unable to determine if James family were any relation.
Any help appreciated. Did wonder if Father William was also a Collier and was also Blacksmith to pit ponies. Perhaps wishful thinking. Regards, Syljun

Hi Osprey, Marriage of William Batt & Mary Jones - Cardiff March 1853. Probably Mary was a friend of the couple - born in Penmark.
Going back to 1851 Census to establish marr. of Richard James and Mary ? Freeband misses a partner for Richard married in Neath March 1845 - going by birth of son William b.1847.
Hoping to move on this one as all tree branches stuck in brick walls. Many thanks for your help. Regards, Syljun
