help finding Abel's parents........
« on: Thursday 03 July 08 15:41 BST (UK) »
hi

i have only just started using IGI and i am not sure of it yet.

I am trying to find information about the parents of Abel FINNIMORE.

I have found Abel in all the census returns from 1841 to 1901 (he was 81)

1901 - ABEL FINNIMORE RG13/2036/12/16
1891 - ABEL FINNIMORE RG12/1678/51/3
1881 - ABEL FINNIMORE RG11/2232/52/4
1871 - ABEL FINNIMORE RG10/2050/70/24
1861 - ABEL FINNIMORE RG9/1385/57/10
1851 - ABEL FAINIMORE HO107/1866/41
1841 - A C FINNIMORE HO107/206/1

In 1841 it has been transcribed as A C but i am sure this says Abel, it is difficult to read.

I wonder if the name above is his father Rich/ Richard which has been transcribed as Jas.

I have found the christening of Abel on the IGI - 16 April 1820 and it gives his parents as Anne and Rich.  There are also 9 or 10 other children

Could anyone tell me how can i now go further back, i would like to find the marriage of Ann and Rich and how do I carry on from there?

i know this is a long one......... any help would be appreciated.

regards
sara

There is an IGI record for a marriage

Richard Finnimore with Ann Beavis , 18 May 1813Woodbury Devon.

Might be worth following that up.

Two types of LDS records- submitted and extracted. Submitted ones are only as good as the information submitted. Extracted records may also contain errors and both should be treated as guides and verified.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

would that marriage be too late though, they had children christened before that, from 1806 so i was looking for a marriage before 1806, ?

Hi Sara

People did marry after they started having children so it would still be worth following up. However I notice there is a Woodbury baptism for the couple in same year as marriage so mayb they aren't yours :-\

One other thing

I notice one of the Aylesbeare couple's  children is
Anne Hingcombe Penny Finnimore 21 JUL 1822

The use of surname's as middle-names usually points to mother's maiden-name ( or any earlier maiden-name) and I found this lady

Ann Kingcom Penny 7 JAN 1781  Saint Olave, Exeter parents John Penny and Mary

Seems rather a coincidence. H and K could easily be confused in transcription.
No obvious marriage but Exeter St Olave isn't extracted onto the IGI for the dates you are looking at. Well worth following up.

This site is worth knowing as it allows you to search the IGI extracted records by parish
