Hmmmm, I have Barnabas Shipley in my line. Perhaps there is a relationship somewhere.  My Barnabas was baptised in Penshaw in 1818, his grandfather was a Barnabas and there were several others in the various branches.

Have you worked your way back from George and Martha?

HI Janis

I've just started looking into this side of  the family. I've seen another Barnabas on IGI and thought there had to be a link somewhere, but as of yet I haven't found one.

Can you see any connections on your tree with the names. Do you have 1841 census records?

You can get the marriage certificate of George Shipley and Martha Pearson.  1843 Dec ¼ Sunderland 24 234.  That will give you George's father's name and occupation.

Th 1841 census for my family is:

HO107/314/9 folio 33 page 15 and 16

Sherburn Hill Village, 'Sherburn Hill'
   Thomas Shipley, 45, Coalminer
   Ann Shipley, 45
   Barnabas Shipley, 20
   George Shipley, 20
   Thomas Shipley, 15
   John Shipley, 5
   Ann Shipley, 10

Thomas age 45 father was a Barnabas Shipley. Thomas' first wife was a Jane Atkinson.

Perhaps if we go far enough back there is a common ancestor.

Hi Rachael,

I seen this thread on line & have just joined this site to drop you a note. Meg Shipley and Mark Lownds are my great grandparents. They had a son they named Mark, he married Mary Usher, and they had a son Melvyn (my father).
