Hi,

Does anyone now the inhabitants of a Faraday Place in Addiewell, West Calder c.1880/90.  My great grandfather, William Bell was  a foreman in the Shale Oil  works and lived in poss. No 3 Faraday Place - they were foremans cottages,
thank you.

Hi Claire,

You may already have 1901 census but, if not;

William (aged 36, born Livingston) and Mary (aged 30, born Livingston) are living at 3 Faraday Place at the time of the 1901 census with their 8 children - William (9, Livingston), Richard (8, Livingston), Mary (7, Livingston), Thomas (5, West Calder), David (4, West Calder), Charles (2, West Calder), James (2, West Calder) and Martha (1, West Calder).

William is shown as Foreman of Oil Refinery.

William was born to William and Mary and was living at 57, East End in Livingston in 1871.  William senior was a labourer at oil works.  The 8 month old Mary (Moore) was living with her parents, Richard (a cotton spinner) and Mary at 41, East End.

Is any of this useful or do you have already? I'd be able to do other census checks etc. if you don't already have.

Kenny

Hi Kenny,

 just to let you know my grandmother was the 13th child born to William and Mary in 1907, so I really do appreciate this especially as I am in Wales,
take care,

James.

Claire,
            Here is a photo of Faraday Place, I have more. If you send me a PM with an email address I will send them to you, they are all a bit big to post here.

On this quest to Addiewell, I fell down a rabbits hole and met Alice today, I will tell you that story too at the same time. It sure is an interesting world.

James.
