Well, the 1851 census gives Daniel a sister who seems to have married another Jones  ::)

Mary sister widow 53 formerly farmer's wife b. Llanbyder
John Williams 25 ag servant b. Llanbyder
John Evans 17 ag servant b. Llanbyder
Rachel Jones 21 ag servant b. Rhos y corn

Possible marriage

I was concentrating so much on Daniel's place of birth that I didn't notice it was Cardiganshire, not Carmarthenshire.  :-[     :-[

1861 Cwmcwtta, Edwins(ford ?), Llansawel RG9/4127 folio 6 pg 5
Daniel Jones head mar 50 farmer of 113 acres employing 2 boys b. Cardiganshire, Llanfairdydogau
Rachel wife 37 b. Llandingat
William son 11 b. Cilycwm
John William 35 farm servant b. Llanbyther
David Jones 12 farm servant b. Pencarreg
Rachel Davies 19 farm servant b. Llanfynydd
Elinor Davies 14 far servant b. Talley

On second thoughts, this looks a more likely marriage as Llandovery registration district covered Llandingat and the marriage was more likely to have taken place in the bride's parish.

Daniel Jones march qtr 1849 Llandovery vol 26 pg 657 with Rachel Thomas on the same page

Too many William Jones births registered Llandovery (also covered Cilycwm) to guess which one is correct.

I suspect Daniel's birth parish was Llanfair Clydogau, just over the county border and into Cardiganshire

There is a possible baptism in Llandingat batch C099371 for Rachel Thomas 14/10/1823 daughter of John & Elizabeth, but marriage cert needed to find out her father's details.

modified - had left out Daniel's age  :-[

I'd already had a look for Daniel in Llanfair Clydogau, but he's not in the IGI batch for that parish, so it could be that he wasn't baptised there or that the family was non-conformist. Can't spot a suitable baptism for sister Mary in Llanybyther either, but the only IGI records from that parish are from Rhydybont Independent Dissenters and there's no knowing if they practised infant baptism.

With the proliferation of the surname Jones, it would be a more reliable method for your friend to get Daniel's marriage certificate first to get his father's details.

You could ask the archives in Aberystwyth about Daniel's baptism. They are very helpful although their response might not be instant

Daniel appears to have died between 1861 and 1865. Several possible death registrations for Daniel Jones in Llandilofawr. But if you can identify his death, it could be worth looking for a will - index is on

Do you need later census entries for Rachel? She is at Cwmcwtta until 1891 and I seem to remember there's a grandchild with her on one census.
