The Czar's Irish Army
« Reply #3 on: Tuesday 30 May 06 22:59 BST (UK) »

Lists of names etc - hope you find somebody !!

A small band of Irishmen made up an extraordinary squadron who fought in Asia Minor and beyond with the Czar of Russia in 1915, as part of the Royal Naval Air Service..... from armoured cars!

Thanks Annie:
I had come across this before and it is indeed fascinating. You know the Irish! Always looking for a place to get into a good fight. Even at the Alamo. Did you know that there were quite a few Irish-born and English-born who died there with Crockett et al??

So,to continue.A spooky thing again.Took a book from the Library, just had a quick look at it,got home and settled down for a read.
As true as the word's on your screen, who should pop up but a John Prendergast from Kerry.came to Sth Aus a while back now, a big family here.No conn; to the earlier Prendy's.

I tell you Annie, something's wierd about all these coincidences!!

            Take care,

Irish Regimental History
« Reply #7 on: Saturday 03 June 06 17:04 BST (UK) »
An excellent page of information including;

The memoirs and services of the 83rd Regiment from 1793 to 1907.

A historical record Of the 86th Regiment (The Royal County Down Regiment Of Foot)  To 1842.

Volume 1 of the Regimental History Royal Irish Rifles by Lt. Col. G. B. Laurie.

Volume 2 Royal Irish Rifles by Captain Cyril Falls.

With The Ulster Division in France - A story of the 11th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles (South Antrim Volunteers) from Bordon to Thiepval by A. P. I. Samuels
.

There is also a great account/memoir of the travels of Captain Edward William Bray (83rd Regiment) in 1860.It's not a regimental history but it makes fascinating (and amusing) reading and really gives an idea of what overseas travel was like in the 1860's.

When you click on a link select 'open' to view the pages.
