Okay my Doolans are apparently a generation before yours.

Because of the years I originally thought convicts however I failed to find a match and then found the "David McIver" passenger record where he was an Assisted Immigrant. No doubt it was from this where I found his birthdate and place.

I have learnt not to totally trust the info here as it is there to please any employers or the group bringing them out.

Your Doolans to Sydney are also likely to be Assisted Immigrants so you may find them arriving here by searching here

Good Luck

I've just found a Daniel Doolan who arrived in Sydney in 1858 aboard the Forest Monarch, and Catherine and Mary Doolan arrived in Sydney aboard the Star of Brunswick in 1865, not sure but they're probably my ancestors.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Yep ... you possibly have them but there were a few Doolans that settled in Australia including convicts. I've often thought that other family members made their way out here to avoid the famine especially when somebody was already here and writing home (a freed convict).

Amongst the convicts there are 8 Doolans and a couple using the name as an alias so now take a look at https://convictrecords.com.au/

Now I don't know what you know of Australia and convicts so here are some hints. Generally the hardened criminals were sent anywhere else but Sydney (I did say generally)
Van Diemans Land is Hobart Tasmania
Moreton Bay is Brisbane Queensland
Prior to 1851 all the records for Melbourne Victoria are found on the NSW State Records
The online records at NSW State Records can be found at https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/
Births Deaths & Marriages is http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/tracing-your-family-tree.aspx
All are free

Oh the errors we make when trying to make haste.
Apart from my typo where I left out the "h" ... I did misread the name as Willoughby which is the name of a suburb not far from here in Sydney.
With hand written text I will have to slow right down and look instead of trusting what the mind wants me to see.
Thank you Maggsie for being on the ball.
I'm still grinning though.
