Hi Shirley

From what I have found, Daniel married Ann Noble 2 May 1822 in March, Cambridgeshire, England.  He then married Susannah Hardley on 7 February 1839 at St Andrews Cambridgeshire.  Daniel's father is definitely listed as Isaac and he was a Farmer when Daniel married Ann (by Licence).

Daniel, Susannah (Susan), James, Daniel, Isaac, Elizabeth & Robert arrived in Australia 27 December 1852 on the Persian.  Daniel passed away 10 September 1853 at Prahran, Victoria.  I do not know where he is buried and need to purchase his death certificate.  Susannah died and was buried 11 May 1868 in the St Kilda Cemetery.  You will find other Ruff family members buried there as well.

Cheers
Judi

Hi Shirley

Arthur James Noble Ruff married Mary Elizabeth Goodey/Tilbury 1899. He is the son of James Ruff and Elizabeth nee Vines. James is the son of Daniel Ruff and Ann Noble. I believe these may possibly be names in your lineage as well, am I correct?

Have you had any further success with this family please.

Cheers
Judi

Do you know what it is with the surname Goodey - why did the family continue to use Tilbury ?

I am still researching this family, it is one of my on-going families.  Shirley has given me information but the more the merrier I say.  I have handwritten notes and printed information from Shirley I have put into folders to add into my database.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Melvyn,

I am from a line of the Ruff family that comes from a son (Robert Mark Noble Ruff) of Daniel Ruff and Ann Noble.  I am really interested in any info you may have to share.  I live in country NSW, Australia and have uncovered some interesting stories from New Zealand, but am finding that I am getting different answers to my research questions than other people ie. I think Daniel Ruff died in Cambridgeshire, not Melbourne, but maybe there is more than one Daniel as I can't see a 60 year old migrating to Australia in those days as there is no criminal record for him.  After all what was the life span in those days?

Look forward to hearing from you, Cheers Cate

Cate

Judi gave me some information that might assist.

Daniel Ruff married to Ann Noble came to Australia on the ship Persia ariving 27 Dec 1852 with son Daniel age 25, James age 22, Isaac age 20, Mark age 16 and Elizabeth age 18. (Wonder if Mark is actually Robert). Daniel's wife is listed as Susan. I believe Ann died and Daniel then married Susannah Hardley on 7 Feb 1839 and this is the person listed on the ship. Daniel died 10 Sep 1853 at Prahran Victoria. Susannah died 11 May 1868 and is buried at St Kilda Cemetery so perhaps Daniel is there also.

If Mark is indeed Robert I would be pleased to have information about his family - which indeed would mean we are cousins.
