Ellen ENRIGHT, Parkaree, Manister
« on: Friday 18 July 08 19:28 BST (UK) »

I have come up against a solid wall in relation to Ellen Enright, my maternal grandmother.  To give you some idea of my difficulty I will work backwards.

Date of Death               29 May 1932                    Age shown  65

                                                         Census                         2 April 1911                        "        "      47

                                                         Marriage                        2 March 1897                     "        "      21

Therefore I have 3 different dates for her birth, all of which have not helped in establishing the correct birth date.

As far as I am aware her parents were Eugene Enright and Margaret, nee Hinchy.  They had 9 children but there is no trace of Ellen whatsoever!

Please note I have already been on to the GRO at Roscommon and have drawn a blank on all 3 occasions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The answer might be quite simple- it's very possible that her birth was not registered. Civil registration of births in Ireland began 1864 but many early births weren't registered until registration became compulsary in 1870. Since you've tried several times without sucess for a certificate you might have more luck if you try to find a record of her baptism in church records.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you for your prompt reply.  A search has been made of the Manister church records but without finding anything, hence my appeal for help.

Hi, I was browsing for any Enright names and saw your message.
Ellen Enright is registered in Croom in 1871.
Volume 20 Page 207.
Also, if you type in
1901 census Ireland
you will see the family in Parkaree, Eugene is spelt Eugeane and he is 70.
I am from the Enright clan, any Enright in the world is related, they go back to the 1550's and originated from Castleconnell, Limerick
