ALCOCKS possible link to Ulysses GRANT?

Hi

I have a number of Alcocks born Arkengarthdale Yorkshire in my tree, and I understand that many family members emigrated to the USA in the 1830's or thereabouts.

I understand from someone living in Arkengarthdale that an American visitor there some years ago was looking for descendents of the Alcock family who moved to the USA, since he felt there was a link to the wife of Ulysses Grant.

Don;t know anything more about this I'm afraid, but if anyone else does I'd love to hear!

Have you taken a look at the RootsWeb World Connect Project?  There are a number of family tree submissions for Ulysses Grant.
