Can anybody help. I am looking for a William Wingate b july 23 1893 his mother was a Mary Wingate. He was born Paisley
What i cant find is William in the 1901 census, i think his mother went on to marry a James Chapman, william is not with them or the grandparents.
I know for a fact he did not die until 1966

Something not quite right here

This is the 1891 for Glasgow

James Chapman 27  b Fife Dysart - mercantile clerk
Mary Chapman 25  b Paisley
James Chapman 2  b Glasgow
Janet Wingate 53  mother in law b Ayr - Largs

This suggests that Mary was married to Chapman before William was born in 1893

yes he was illegitimate mary wingate married james chapman in 1888

If Mary married Chapman in 1888 and William was only born  in 1893???  Did Chapman die after 1891 and Mary revert to her maiden name or have you made an error in William's birthyear?

well im soooo lost i got william wingates birth certificate it just says mary wingate i did a search for her and i got a mary robertson wingate james chapman was still alive when mary robertson wingate  died in 1901

The 1891 has quite a few Mary Wingate's who were single and old enough to have a child in 1893 - but none in Paisley

I can only suggest you look for a Wingate marriage from 1893-1901 and then check if William appears in that household

The 1901 has a lot of William's b Paisley 1893/4 with a mother called Mary
