Jonathon.

Do You have their 1901 Census entry?

On there they are listed as living with Walter SHEPHERDSON (Johns Brother) at 71 Liverpool Road, Manchester.

The only children (Beatrice 16Yrs old & Joe 12Yrs old) are listed as Walters Sister & Brother!

The only record I can find is John William Shepherdsons marriage to Grace KNIGHT, June Qtr 1896 in Bury (ref 8c 820)

No sorry i don't

Crikey that is a puzzle, guess they don't have any kids. Maybe Beatrice and Joe are kind of step-children. Grace and John are bringing them up because Walter (their father?) is for some reason without their mother (widowed?)

Hi,
John William Shepherdson married Grace Knight in christ church, Walmersley ( bury) in 1896 - they are buried together in phillips park cemetery, manchester - along with Joe Shepherdson and his wife Eliza Wilson ( my great grandparents).
They are the same family living with his brother/siblings/and parents at the Oxnoble inn, 71 liverpool rd, manchester in the 1901 census.
Graces parents were William and Ann from Holme Huntinghamshire he was a caster in the 1891 census living in Walmersley.
At this moment trying to find out if they had any children - they passed away living in ( i think) oldham but were buried in section P plot 17 CofE they were buried before his brother and wife and are not written on the headstone.
What family link are you from?
Lookforward to your reply,
regards,
Mark.

Hi Mark,

I love it when i find a link with another Rootschatter!

First thanks for the info on where John and Grace are buried, I was untill now unaware of that.

Ahh Holme, i feel like i know the place through my Knights but never been near the place - One day!

So what you're saying is John and Grace were living at the Oxnoble Inn with Walter? (If so, take it he was John's brother?)

Can you work out if we have any relation? - I doubt it in the conventional sense because we don't share grandparents no matter how many greats!

Your Great-Grandfather Joe was the brother-in-law of my Great-Great-Grandaunt Grace Knight

Grace's youngest brother John W was the father of my Great-Grandmother Amy Knight

Look forward to your repley

Hi Jonathan,
Walter Shepherdson was John W's older brother - he married Emily Richards ( they had three children - Olive, Emily and Edith).
After running the Oxnoble - he ran the Big Bradford pub - then the shakespeare hotel - then finaly the hand and heart ( his address on his burial records).
John W was the next child with Tom (Thomas) Reeve Shepherdson next - he married Annie Lees and had at least two children ( Ethel and May) - waiting for info on the family from an ancestry family link.
Next was George Shepherdson he was in the Canadian army in the first world war and emigrated to Canada  ?????
Next was Arthur he died aged 6 in 1883.
Then - Annie Shepherdson married William H Kenworthy they had at least one son Thomas.
Then - Emma married Thomas Broadbent they had at least one daughter Beatrice M.
Then - Beatrice married William Phillips they had at least two children Fred and Florance.( possibly more)
Then - Joe married Eliza Wilson they had two children Fred ( my grandfather) and May.
Finally - Alice ??????????????
John w's parents were John Shepherdson and Emma Reeve.
Trying to find any info after 1901 is a real headache cannot wait for the 1911 census as there is alot of Shepherdsons born from 1901 to 1912 at least after that mothers nees are on the registers.
My great auntie May is still alive - I will ask again for some more info on her uncle John and family ??
We do have a family photo of the Shepherdson family with partners - taken during or after world war 1.
If you would like a copy email me on (*)
Regards,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for all the infomation on the Shepherdson family, all very interesting - Good work  :)

Thanks in advance for taking the time to speak to your Great Auntie May about John and Grace.

I would love to see the photo you mention, i love those old family group photos. I've got a few and i'm stumped on all but a handful of the people in the photos!

Yes i can't wait for the 1911 census, seems like i've been waiting forever. Meanwhile the list of names born, married etc between 1901 - 1911 stacks up waiting to be solved (or not!) come the realise of the 1911 census.

Thanks again

Jonathan

Hi Everyone

I am researching SHEPHERDSONs everywhere.  The SHEPHERDSON family that you mention is part of a line I am currently working on.  I would be quite interested in any recent info.

I can tell you that the SHEPHERDSONs  mentioned are children of John SHEPHERDSON & Emma REEVE.  This John was the s/o William SHEPHERDSON & Jane FROGGATT.

If you check some of the Rootsweb postings under the SHEPHERDSON List, you will see details of many different SHEPHERDSONs mentioned.  As well, you will see how to contact me direct.

Look forward to hearing from anyone with SHEPHERDSON ancestors.
