Hi Osprey, This has been my best hope. The address being Forge. Can you elaborate on address please if possible. The reason being that my Grt.Grandfather on his marr.cert. said his Father was a Blacksmith but that may have been a fancy name for a labourer working there or he may have become a Blacksmith. I notice Jane is a Widow which may narrow down death of William, at least between 1851/61.

Many thanks for your help.

Forge is the address for about 10 pages of the 1861 census of Llanelli. It appears to be between Vauxhall and Sandy Road. The description of the enumeration district starts off "part of the Borough Hamlet and part of Hengoed hamlet".

This gives a bit of background

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/Llanelli/Lloyd.html

If you're using Ancestry, you can access the description of the enumeration district by clicking on the last word before district "you are here" and then on the relevant district number. Sometimes it's detailed, sometimes it's not.

Thanks Osprey, Have followed up on several members of family and have at last found right one so have sent for couple of certs. Thank you for your help. It might have been easier if name kept to David instead of alternating to Davies. Will look up info.Syljun

there was a thread about this on the Glamorgan board recently. Seemed to be a trend at the time to add the 's'. I have instances of it in my family in Pembrokeshire and Monmouthshire. Could have done without a John female giving her maiden names as Jones on a birth cert and sending me off on a wild goose chase.

Believe me I know the frustration it causes. I have several name changes and 's' added. My Grandfather was only one registered in name of Davies. Brothers and sisters registered in name of David. You can imagine the problems it caused although siblings married in name of Davies, so was that legal. One brother went into Registry Office 20 yrs after getting marr. and changed name back to David. Must have got hold of his Birth/Cert.
Happy researching, Syljun
