South African help need to trace a writer?
« on: Wednesday 06 August 08 20:07 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the family of Rev. Robert Gillespie and his wife Catherine Clendinning "Kate" Watters and have been told their grand-daughter? is/was Kate SIMMS who 'writes on South Africa.'.
Only clue I have is that Rev. Robert Gillespie's eldest son, Rev. Samuel Gillespie lived in India and married a Miss Bayley from Dublin, having a son and a daughter. In 1928 the daughter was living in South Africa.
Have tried searching for Kate Simms on the internet but no luck so far. Has anyone heard of her?

just realised that this is too modern.  What sort of dates are you looking at.  When did they marry?  When was she born?

This may be her book.

Thanks for the link. I think the Kate Simms I'm looking for would be much older but will make a note of this one just in case.

1949 one sounds promising.
Rev. Samuel Gillespie born 1869 India died Mar.1928 m. R.E.? Bayley of Dublin & had son and daughter. In 1928 the son was in the Indian Army and the daughter was married and living in South Africa. Rev. Samuel Gillespie was assistant minister in Dublin before 1895 and suspect he was married around that time so grand-daughter could be born in 1920s or 1930s.
