Middlesex County Hospital, Bushey, Watford
« on: Friday 08 August 08 08:42 BST (UK) »

My birth certificate states I was born at Middlesex County Hospital, in the Urban District of Bushey, Registration District Watford. Herts.  I have been trying to find out if this hospital still exists (I was born in 1941).

Does anyone know if a hospital by this name is still in existence and if so, where it is?

Many thanks, Carol

Hi Carol,

I'm wondering if it could be this one?  :)

Hello Tati and AVM

Many thanks for your replies to my query.  The hospital called Bushey Maternity Hospital is most probably the one I was born in.  It's great to have an address for the building, which i shall look up next time I'm in London.
Thanks again, Carol, Manchester

I have just asked a friend, who was brought up in Bushey-in fact her brother was born at the Bushey Maternity hospital in 1959.

She says she was sure it was originally in Windmill Lane and was known locally as Bushey Maternity Hospital. She thinks it moved to Heathbourne Road, Bushey but closed some 30 years ago or so.

I would imagine that the Herts Record Office will have info about it.

Thank you, Carol, for your reply about Bushey Hospital.  I shall look at the website you mention and hopefully find a map of the area

Use www.streetmap.co.uk and enter Heathbourne Road, that'll show you where it used to be  ;D

I expect all maternity cases go to Watford Hospital now.

Thanks, Carol, for the information about the street map website - I hadn't seen that site before.  I've now looked at Heathbourne Road and Windmill Lane.  I have a brother who lives in Watford so next time I visit him, I'll take a look at these two roads.  All this information has solved a few puzzles in my family history quest.
Thanks again

Hi Chappers
I was born in that hospital in 1966, 28 years later I was back there having a back operation as it had been taken over by BUPA, it is now called Spire http://www.spirehealthcare.com/bushey/
Hope this helps you :)
