cashman

Looking for proof that James, Bartholomew & Margaret Cashman were all siblings.

Margaret was born County Cork & presume others were also.  Unfortunately only one has parents on his death certificate.  All migrated to Australia in early 1850s.

James born circa 1829, died Victoria, Australia 1854.
Margaret born circa 1814, died Victoria, 1884
Bartholomew born circa 1816, died Victoria 1893, his parents were Jeremiah Cashman & Catherine Buckley.

Can any one help please?

thank you
Debra

On the off chance they were still in Ireland at the time of Griffiths Valuation Bartholomew may well be listed as he was older. Griffiths is the list of the head of household that held/rented land around 1850. Only one name is listed for each household and usually it was the father.

Surname Forename Townland Parish County
Cashman Bartholomew Lyradane Grenagh Cork
Cashman Bartholomew Wallingstown Little Island Cork
Cashman Bartholomew Killeens St. Marys Shandon Cork

One of these below Jeremiah's could be their father? It is worth noting that not all families were in Griffiths Valuation

Surname Forename Townland Parish County
Cashman Jeremiah Forest Town Carrigtohill Cork
Cashman Jeremiah Garranes Carrigtohill Cork
Cashman Jeremiah Kilvealaton, West Kilshannig Cork
Cashman Jeremiah Townparks Middleton Cork
Cashman Jeremiah Behernagh, Lower Rathcormack Cork
Cashman Jeremiah Dundullerick, East Templebodan Cork
Cashman Jeremiah Trabolgan Trabolgan Cork

Catherine Cashman nee Buckley might be a widow at the time of Griffiths so here is a list of Catherine Cashman's head of household

Surname Forename Townland Parish County
Cashman Catherine Barrack Street St. Finbars Cork
Cashman Catherine Trabolgan Trabolgan Cork

thank you Gerard.  They didn't arrive in Australia until 1852 & the Bartholomew at Lyradane would be a perfect fit if he was farming separately from his father, which is possible as he would have been in his 30s by 1850.

Trabolgan is the only common parish in the list posted by Gerard. Could Jeremiah have registered a property in his wife's name in the mid 1800s?

Thank you for the Trabolgan clue, Christopher.  It couldn't be a co-incidence that there is an entry for both Jeremiah & Catherine at at this place, I've given up on co-incidences in the tree search.  Most turn out to be the person/place I want.
I shall follow the Trabolgan lead.

Debra

Can stop looking.  Have discovered James Cashman's inquest papers which state that Margaret Cashman's husband, Denis Foley, was the brother in law of James.  So this confirms that Bartholomew, James & Margaret were all siblings.

Thank you everyone, the information you've given me is stored away for future reference, especially the Trabolgan lead as I've found a possible marriage for the parents in the town.

Debra

Hi,

I know this thread is several years old but i'm hoping you will see this. I was wondering who the parents of James and the other two siblings are? The only reason I ask is that my grandmother was a Cashman and her family came from Grenagh Parish in County Cork. I have been searching the Cashman side of my family and have hit a major roadblock. I have gotten my Cashman side back to 1802 with John Cashman (my 4th great grandfather), his wife was Margaret (I don't have her last name). John shows up on the Tithe Applotment Books in Lyradane in 1834.  John, his wife and their children left Ireland in 1848 and started a life in NYC. I'm trying to find any more Cashman's that are related to my Cashman's in hopes of finding living relatives in Ireland.
