suz - I wonder if I could trouble you with a couple of details from the info you sent earlier.

Could you possibly tell me what age George Wood gives in the 1861 Census. (RG9 2520 5 3)

For some reason, I can't find him on the IGI 1881 census - yet you say he's listed as lodging in Mapleton .. I've searched all ways and still can't get him to show up. ??? ???

Please don't trouble to look these up if you're busy doing other stuff.. you've helped me loads already ;D ;D

No trouble at all - sorry I missed it off!

No problem !

1861 george was 45
I think the age is wrong in 1871!!! but that's how it reads!!!!

1881
The Village mappleton Derbys
hannah Swinsco (or Swinson) head W 70 Annuitant Smalley derbys
Sarah Ann daughter U 23 dressmaker Mappleton
George Wood Lodger W 65 labourer Ellaston Staffs
George grindey Boarder 4 mappleton
RG11 3424 41 7

(same family -but daughter Sarah is head of huse )  as in 1891

Blimey! this is getting more complicated by the minute!
Thanks for all this.  Wish he'd make his mind up how old he is!

Mmm... need to sit and dwell on it all for a while I reckon.

Many thanks again for your super-sleuthing!

Thanks suz!
The 1841 details for the Beresfords fit with some IGI baptisms, - Daughter 'Fairfax is listed as Fairfax Norcliff Beresford and there's a marriage in 1810 in Ashbourne of a John Beresford to Elizabeth Norcliffe... and a babtism in Belper of Elizabeth Norcliffe to parents Joseph and Lucy (both names then appear in the grandchildren)... so thats quite a neat set!

Don't sweat anymore over George Wood.
I've got the fiche for Ellastone, so I'll take a look at that tomorrow, see if I can get anywhere with the Wood families.

THanks again for all your help ;D
