1910 Census, Scranton, Pennsylvania, 225 Kressler Court

McFarlane, Wilson, age 33, married once for 13 years, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1903, alien, machinist for general machine shop, out of work for 8 weeks in 1909

wife Marie, age 32, married once for 13 years, mother of six children - 5 of whom are living, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1904, no occupation

son Wilson Jr., age 12, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1904

daughter Isabelle, age 11, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1904

son Hugh J., age 9, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1904

son Alexander, age 3, born Pennsylvania, parents born Scot.

daughter Sarah M., age 11 months,  born Pennsylvania, parents born Scot.

On the passenger list with Mary and the kids from 1905, it looks like they were going to join Wilson in Port Jervis, New York.  The address might be 18 Sussex St., but it's a bit hard to read.

I haven't had any luck with finding them after that.  Both Wilsons are of the age where you'd expect them to show up in WWI Draft Registration cards, and I didn't see either.  Nothing on subsequent census records seemed to be a match.  I wonder if there's any chance they might have returned home?

I was just sitting here putting that census information in and thinking the same thing  :-\
I don't think they went back to Scotland, as the "family story" goes that Mary's Mother went out the US later on, but then we all know about the family stories  ;D  Shall try and contact a cousin in Scotland and ask.  Thanks again for your time and help it's much appreciated.

Well, looks like they may have gone back & forth.

SS Marburn sailing from Glasgow to St. John, New Brunswick, 15 Apr. 1923

McFarlane, Wilson, Sr., age 45 years 6 months, married, engineer, last permanent residence - Glasgow, Scotland, nearest relative - wife Margaret McFarlane, 46 Whitehill St., Dannistonn, final destination - Detroit, Mich., in possession of $75, going to join friend Mr. James Stewart, 5202 Wabash Ave., Detriot, Mich., intends to stay permanently, 5 ft. 6 1/2 inches tall, sallow complexion, gray hair and eyes, born Glasgow

McFarlane, Wilson, Jr., age 22 years 2 months, single, engineer, last permanent residence - Glasgow, Scotland, nearest relative - mother Margaret McFarlane,  final destination - Detroit, Mich., in possession of $70, intends to stay permanently, 5 ft. 11 1/2 inches tall, fresh complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, born Jamestown, Scotland

There is a Detroit border crossing for 19 Apr 1923 which lists a Wilson McFarlane.  Also, another Detroit border crossing for Wilson, born abt. 1878, from 28 May 1928.

SS Letitia, Glasgow to Quebec, 27 May 1928
McFarlane, Wilson, age 50, married, tool maker, born Glasgow, immigration visa # 303999 issued 14/9/27, last permanent residence - Detroit, Mich., nearest relative - daughter, Mrs. Marion Whitelaw, 2 Westmoat Hill, Cupar, Fife, final destination - Detroit, in possession of $1500, in US from 1923-1927 in Detroit, home address - 4810 Fernwood Ave., Detroit, intending to stay permanently, 5 ft. 5 inches, fair complexion, grey hair and eyes

McFarlane, Margaret, age 48, married, housewife, born Glasgow, immigration visa #303508 issued 12/9/27, last permanent residence - Detroit, Mich., nearest relative - daughter, Mrs. 6 inches tall, fair complexion, brown hair and grey eyes

There's a Wilson McFarlane born Dec. 11, 1900 who was naturalized in Detroit.  There's a date of Apr. 12, 1930 on it.

1930 Census, Detroit, Michigan, 12800 James Avenue
McFarlane, Wilson, rents home for $45, age 55, married, age at first marriage - 23, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1923, papers filed for naturalization, tool fitter for auto factory, not a veteran

wife Margaret, age 53, age at first marriage 21, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1923, alien, no occupation

son Wilson Jr., age 28, single, born Scot., parents born Scot., immigrated 1923, papers filed for naturalization, tool fitter for auto factory, not a veteran

In the 1929 Detroit city directory:
McFarlene, Wilson (Margt) tool ftr 9035 N Martindale av
McFarlene, Wilson jr tool ftr 9035 N Martindale av

Hopefully, those are the right people.  Not sure why the mother changed from Mary/Marie to Margaret and the 1923 passenger list says they weren't in the US before, but the rest seems to fit.

Thanks Shellyesq for all that other information you posted The McFarlane family that kept going back and forth isn't mine.  The Clue was the birth date for Wilson as Dec 11 1900 and Mothers name Margaret.  This is another family who lived in Glasgow in 1901.   :(
I had an email from a cousin in Scotland and her Mother seemed to think that they were in New Jersey round about 1930.  This side of our family is becoming a mystery to us.
Such a shame after all that searching you did it was very kind of you and it's greatly appreciated.  Regards Nessy

Well, maybe that other matching Wilson's family will come searching someday and have info available here.   ;)

Perhaps this is the younger Wilson.

1930 Census, Elizabeth, Union Co., New Jersey
281 Morris Avenue
McFarlane, Wilson, rents home for $40, male, white, age 32, married, age at first marriage - 20, born Scotland, parents born Scotland, immigrated 1920 (year a bit hard to read), papers filed for naturalization, occupation - electrical engineer, not a veteran

wife Daisey, female, age 32, married, age at first marriage - 20, born Scotland, parents born Scotland, immigrated 1922, papers filed for naturalization, no occupation

daughter Dorothy, female, white, age 7, attending school, born New Jersey, parents born Scotland

If that's the right family, Daisy shows up on a passenger list from Sept./Oct. 1921.  She was married then, her last permanent residence was Clydebank, Scotland, her mother was Margaret Wilson of Clydebank, she had never been in the US before, and she was going to join Wilson, who was living in Elizabeth, NJ.  Daisy was born in Falkirk, Scotland.  It also looks like Daisy was detained when she arrived to call Wilson.

The Social Security Death Index also has a Wilson MacFarlane born 7 Nov 1897 and died March 1981.  His last residence was in Newark, NJ, and his last benefit went to Kearny, NJ.  His SS number was issued in New Jersey before 1951.
