Hello  Louise again, I was on the BBC  history site and took the advice to come here I have reached a standstill in my search with Elizabeth's family because no one seems to be sure where she was born. My mum insists she was told by her mum that she was born in Edinburgh. I suppose that information might be on a marriage certificate so I will look there next.

On this site it is easier to share private messages, and also photographs, and Karron was interested in these from you.  There is no facility on the bbc for PMs and photos.
On the 1911 census, (see bbc thread message 11) Elizabeth Ford gives her birthplace as Mary Hill, Glasgow, and her son Francis as Govan Glasgow.
Cannot find a marriage for her and George A Jelfs in freebmd or on Scotlands People.

I have a feeling that George A Jelfs and Elizabeth F Ford did not get married until 1928.  It has been know - lots of times.  Elizabeth may have had a previous marriage that prevented her marrying George until this time.

I would be interested in seeing the certificate that goes with this registration (if it was my family)

Marriages Jun 1928
Jelfs George A - to Mason - W.Ham 4a 680
Mason Elizabeth F - to Jelfs - W.Ham 4a 680

Hello again
Well the theory about their marriage I'm not too sure about because you said more or less the same thing on the BBC chat and then Derek said that on the 1911 census they has been married for 26 years? complicated isn't it! Mum said that she couldn't imagine that being the case either because they were very hard on my Grandmother because my mother was on the way before she was married to my grandfather and they spent a bit of time not on speaking terms.  Mind you double standards did exist as much then as they do today!!!

Hello again Silvery.
Well I took your advice and finally ordered the marriage certificate for George Jelfs and Elizabeth Mason. Guess what? You were right. I was so amazed. They had both been married before and widowed. Now I need to find out who they were married to. Elizabeths name was Walker.

You're not the impulsive sort then :).  It was only eight years ago!!    Interesting to read the BBC thread.   What a good board that was.

What is on the cert?    Full names of couple, former names, fathers and occupations, witnesses.

Hello again. No you can say that again Not impulsive at all  ;D. I have been insisting on the Ford name!
The names on the wedding certificate are

George Abel Jelfs -  age 64 - Widower - leather case maker Malvern Rd East Ham
Father Francis Jelfs

Elizabeth Ford Mason - age 61- widow Colvin St East Ham
Father William Walker Licensed victualler.

The witnesses are Mr & Mrs Harris who live (surprise, surprise) at the same address as is stated for George.

I feel quite strange as their life seems to have been lie after lie. On my nans birth certificate her mothers maiden name is down as Ford. Now I am in a hurry to find out more, Why they lied so much!!! Maybe they eloped? I don't know. Anyway thank you for the lead

Elizabeth Ford Walker was born 27 Feb 1866 Milton, Glasgow according to Familysearch.

Parents: William Walker, Janet Atkinson.

ScotlandsPeople would have the full birth registration.

An online tree has her marrying a George Mason in 1884, but no location is given and no source is linked, and other aspects of the tree look unreliable.

She is not the Elizabeth Walker who married a George Mason in Stratford, Warwickshire in 1885 (that Elizabeth was older, born abt 1850, and her father's name was John Kite).
