Sarah, All,
I decided to join the actual Belgian campaign 'Live and Remember'. Any citizen can honor the memory of an WWII Allied soldier who lost his life in Belgium.
I am living in blaton (Hainaut, Belgium), not too far from Chièvres Airbase and Communal Cemetary where some RAF crew members are buried. As a true RAF and airplanes enthusiast I decided to honor the memory of Sgt Eric Howes who died on 11th August 1943.
Eric Howes was Sergeant Wireless Operator and Air Gnr on Halifax II serial no JD167 from 77 Sqdn. All Halifax bomber crew members are buried in the Chièvres Communal Cemetary. It seems the bomber has been shot down by a German night fighter.
In the night of 10th to 11th August 1943, RAF sent thousands of bomber to Nuremberg.
I'm still starting my enquiry on Eric Howes. Could you please help me finding more information about him, about the JD167 Halifax bomber, where did the plane crash exactly, about the bombing mission to Nuremberg, ... ?
Sarah, could you please forward me some pictures of the following graves in chièvres :
Eric Howes,
Peter Hobbs,
Bryan Arthur,
Etherington Harry,
Faliejevas "Cockaine G"
Pegg Eric
Rushton Rodney
Thank you very much in advance, Merci beaucoup
Philippe
