From the information on his Marriage Certificate (quoted above), if Bertie was 23 in 1921 he should have been born in 1898/99. However, looking at the Birth Registrations in Skipton the only Bertie Hicks born there around that time was in the second quarter of 1901. Only one other Bertie Hicks was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire between 1895 and 1903 and that was in 1897 in Halifax but he died in the same year.

There is a Death Registration, possibly, for that Skipton person (I think) ....

1980 Keighley OND quarter 4 0732 - Bertie Hicks dob 01/04/1901

No guarantees - but I would guess that this was more than likely “your” Bertie.

Being born on 01/04/1901, he missed the 1901 Census by one day, otherwise we might have been able to see him on there with his parents to check if his father matched the one on the Marriage Certificate.

I hope that some of what I have suggested helps

DS Wink
