1851 Census - Jersey - RIVE John

I'm looking for John Rive born abt 1834 in Jersey according to the 1881 Census for Lancashire where he later lived.

He is missing from the 1871 and 1861 census for Lancashire although his children where born there, so I'm jumping back to when I reckon he was 17 to find his parents and family.

I think I may have found him in the link on Rootschat to the 1841 census but his age is given as 9.  I did struggle to find someone around his age and may well have missed another entry for John Rive but to rule it out, the Folio Number is 5, Page 8 in the census records for St. Helier, District 28.

Would appreciate any help tracing John's family although I realise I don't have a lot to go on and 40 years is a lot of years to lose!

I think he may be the one age 9....ages vary quite a bit in censuses

1891 census has him being born about 1832...

Thanks for looking. 

I hadn't spotted his age in 1891. That's great!  I guess this has to be him as he does seem to be the only John Rive around that age and 2 years isn't much to forget about!  One of my Great Grandparents ended up with quite a range of birth dates as he got older, he obviously couldn't remember his age!

I'm still rechecking the 1841 census but I haven't found any other John Rives in the right age group so I guess this is him!

Are there any online records of the 1851 census I can check out as well?

I guess John was already on his way up to Liverpool to marry Ann so I just need to find out if he stopped anywhere on the way!

I'm sure I'm on the right track now so thanks for your help getting me there!  Should've just looked at those DOB's first huh?     At least I now know his parents and siblings names to fill in a few gaps on the tree!

Hi Hepburn

Just thought I'd let you know I've found John.  He married Ann Ellen Thomas on 14 Jan 1857 in the India Office Ecclesiastical Returns, Bengal Presidency, Misc India!

I'm just researching why he was there and have found a link through Rootschat's Common Room to the British Library's India Office Records.  Fascinating!
