Canadian Soldiers & Database Links
« on: Saturday 08 October 05 23:39 BST (UK) »

2005 was the Year of the Veteran...I made this header in honour of the occasion, fashioned from the plaster frame on parent's ww2 service photos.
For those of you who may not have these yet, here are some sites to help with your ancestors in the Canadian forces...Please note that new databases are constantly added to each reply

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- CEF signups / WW1 - attestation papers
After you have found information on your ancestor - see link; How to consult a file on-site or order a copy of the complete file  This can be anywhere from a few to  hundreds of pages....depending on how much info there was to record...mini will, medical/hospitalization...etc....( No battle history, though)
*NEW*when someone orders the copies, scanned files are being put online so check off the box for digitized, as a separate search you may find them already available in pdf form.
-if they received info of when they died in Canada...WWI veterans death cards
- Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group "The Matrix Project"  http://www.cefresearch.com/matrix/contents.htm
- Returning WWI Soldiers - Passenger Lists - read this topic!!! http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,192163.0.html
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/ship_date.asp?letter=s&half=1&sname=Scotian&year=1918
*NEW* Royal Canadian Navy Ledger Sheets (1910-1941)
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/navyledgersheet/index-e.html
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

- War Diaries of the First World War

- Soldiers of the  South African War (1899 - 1902)

- For war dead newly compiled databases see reply #3
- For Merchant marine see reply #28

- Gazettes London-gazette, Edinburgh-gazette, Belfast-gazette

- Victoria Cross  awards

- Check out this site for some help... How to search for your military information

- Incomplete, as not all deaths are reported by family ...but a good source for vets who have gone since the two wars....Scroll down to use site Last Post"
