PLEWS Family Tree
« on: Sunday 07 September 08 21:43 BST (UK) »
Hi PLEWS ancestors

Whils browsing in a book store near Bristol, we came across a rather tatty bible; but,  on looking inside, we found 3 pages of a lovely hand written family tree of the PLEWS family

It begins with the following entry:-

HENRY PLEWS was the youngest son of THOMAS PLEWS, Farmer of Thornton Watlass, County of York

The above named HENRY PLEWS was married to ANNE TAYLOR of Kirby Hill or Ravensworth near Richmond at the Church of Kirby Hill on the 30th March 1796.

The final entry is:-

WALTER EDWARD PLEWS died at Bedale (of Apoplexy 28th April 1859) Monday 30th May 1859 at 7.30 pm aged 23 and was interred at Wartlass? Saturday 4th June. Grave immeadiately adjoining (on the right side) the late Jane Robinson

I photographed the 3 pages and would happily pass them on to an ancestor. Incidentally, the Bible was priced at £45

Hi Chris,
If its not too late I would appreciate a copy of your bible extraction of PLEWS.
I recently started to pursue my wife's JACKSON/PLEWS, whilst I do not see an immediate match it is quite likely that one exists.
Martha JACKSON b. 1808 Marrick, married Richard PLEWS b. 1803, Catterick, NRY,
on Aug 21 1827, in Marrick.
This Richard was the son of George PLEWS & Margaret METCALFE they and their six offspring appear in and around Patrick Brompton, NRY.
The grandparents  of this George was George PLEWS & Margaret SPENSLEY, no birth dates yet (C. 1740) but they married on Feb 28 1758, Patrick Brompton.
I do have a 'Snippet' file on all my collateral surnames so I need to check this also.

Hi Chris

What great news this is for PlewsBedale.  I have spent the last few years on and off researching this family.  I am involved in producing a book on the Bedale area, www.bedale.com/book/htm where Henry Plews founded his brewing company in 1795.  I came across David after many posting had been made by me seeking information on the family happily coincided with David venturing into his family history.  I can vouch beyond doubt that this is Davids family.

Here's hoping it all comes to happy conclusion

Mike

Thanks Chris
And to any other Plews out there I am intrested in tracking down our ancestors.
My Grandmother says that the Plews came over from Holland escaping religious persecution.
Dose anyone else know anything about this?

Hi,
I'm researching the PLEWS from Thornton Steward, particularly the line of John BINKS alis PLEWS son of Thomas BINKS alias PLEWS & Jane christened 17 June 1795 at Thornton Steward.

I believe this John PLEWS became a Civil Engineer.

Does anyone have any clues as to the BINKS alias PLEWS connection?

Regards,
Jackie

Chris,
I'm hoping that you still have the extract from the Plews family Bible and would be happy to forward a copy to me.  I am a descendant of Thomas Plews, farmer, of Thornton Steward and the John Plews that JackieM53 mentions is my GGG Grandfather.  I wonder, would farmers Thomas Plews, Thornton Watlass and Thomas Plews, Thornton Steward be one and the same?

Jackie if you'd like to get in touch I can share some info with you.

Regards,

Cliff

Hello Chris
I read your message about the family bible with interest.  I am a Plews descendant - my earliest known ancestor is Marmaduke Plews of Thornton Steward and Spennithorne, 1754-1837 who was probably illegitimate.  I think your Thomas Plews may be a different branch of the family, but having done quite a lot of research into the Plewses I suspect they were all related somehow.  Thomas Plews, farmer, of Thornton Steward may have been the brother or half-brother of Marmaduke.  If you still have a copy of the tree you found I would love a copy of it which might help unravel some of the mysteries!  Would love to hear from anyone else who is researching this family.
Regards
Jenny
