Are there lists of people who have received MBE's?
« on: Monday 08 September 08 12:44 BST (UK) »
Just wondered if there is any sort of publication on the net that would list everyone that has received this honour.  Other honours he had was JP and FEIS.  Looking for lists of these also.  Don't know when it was awarded, he was born 1881 and died 1965.  The letters are after his name on the gravestone.

I would be interested to find out why he was awarded these honours.

Thanks

Try the London Gazette which covers England and Wales:

The London Gazette is likely to only show the date of the award, not the citation. You could also try The Times, or, as a last resort :

Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood
St James's Palace,
London,
SW1A 1BG

It would have been in Scotland, so I guess the London Gazette wont cover it.

Thanks for the replies

The Edinburgh Gazette which covers Scotland can be found on the same site.  I am not sure what it contains.

It is probably still worth checking the London Gazette as the awards were awarded from London.

The name is Alexander Fowler, he was headmaster at Tarradale School in Ross & Cromarty.  He was born in 1881 and died 1965.
